Daniel Ojeda

Originally from Queens, New York, Daniel is a choreographer and soloist with Ballet Idaho. After starting in musical theater at the age of 3 under the direction of Teresa and Mark Aubel, Daniel moved full time into ballet at 12 years old. His training includes the School of American Ballet, the Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Ballet Academy East, and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, all of which he received a full scholarship for. His training also includes coaching from Barbara Walczak, and Northwest Dance Project’s LAUNCH Program.

Over the course of his career as a dancer, Daniel has been featured in works by George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Lar Lubovitch, Craig Davidson, Danielle Rowe, Lauren Edson, Alejandro Cerrudo, Penny Saunders, Wen Wei Wang, Robyn Mineko Williams, Johnathan Fredrickson, Christopher Stowell, Edwaard Liang, Alex Ketley, FLOCK, and Juliano Nunes to name a few. Daniel has choreographed over fifteen original works for Ballet Idaho and has been choreographing for the company since his first season in 2011. His first one act work, ‘This Mortal’s Mosaic’, premiered in 2013 and received critical acclaim from both the Idaho Statesman and the Boise Weekly. Since then, Daniel chooses to continuously collaborate with local artists, musicians, poets, designers, actors, and composers when generating new work, with his largest collaboration to date being the one act narrative work ‘The Monster and The Gift’, which featured commissioned artwork by Boise artist Huma Aatifi and a commissioned score by Boise composers Danny Kerr and Jeremy Stewart. Other collaborations include New Orleans composer Dylan Eller, Boise bands Sun Blood Stories and Thick Business, Boise musician Frankie Tillo, Nampa Idaho’s Death Rattle Writers Festival, Chicago based composer Marc Mellits, and Boise designer Savannah Culp.

Daniel has also created work for ARC Dance Company in Seattle, Pegasus Contemporary Ballet in Dallas, in which he collaborated with local Dallas musician Dev Wulf, the New Century Dance Project in Salt Lake City, and the Men In Dance Festival in Seattle where his work has been featured twice, winning the festival in 2020. Daniel has also created many digital works and music videos including his work ‘Persona’ which was an official selection of the ScreenDance International Film Festival in Detroit Michigan.'
